Warning: knitting ahead

I was going to be good. I was all "yay me, I'm going to knit up my stash. See me buy needles so I can knit things. See me knit stash!" And I have been knitting up my stash to some extent. I started to make a hat with yarn I had (though I need some smaller DPNs for that). I made socks. I'm making a mesh bag with the cheap cotton/acrylic that I really just want to use up.

But I have been done in by deals. I ordered two skeins of way discounted Rowan Calmer from eBay. I ordered a skein of Handmaiden Sea Silk from Little Knits. I just now ordered five skeins of an anniversary sale yarn (I don't even remember what it's called...) from WEBS.

However! I am still being relatively good. The first skein of Calmer is dedicated to swatching--ordinary "see what gauge I get" swatch is going now, then I'll do a swatch-in-the-round, then a cabled Morrigan (sweater I will make someday) swatch. The second skein? Finally, Knucks. The Sea Silk goes toward the Hanami stole--and since I already have the first skein for that, it is technically helping knit up my stash! And the other yarn will be for the Ballet Camisole from MagKnits, which I will totally wear. So, yay. And it's not like my stash is that huge, really... it's just a little inconvenient to transfer around with me between school and home. I guess that will be moot soon anyway. Ah well. I still want to shrink it.

(Also, we just got a huge raise at the Writing Center, so I can totally afford all this!)

Haha, I love the icon. I crochet much more than I knit, but I think I still understand quite well your obsession.
I know about stash! I bought a lot of yarn for specific projects last autumn (and bagged everything with notes and all) when I got back to knitting and crocheting, then I burnt out again at the end of the year.

So here I am with a lot of yarn. But I refuse to look at any more yarn because I know I just won't do anything with it right now. I think it is that cable scarf in my knitting bag that's making me shy away from working on *anything*. I know I can't work on it unless I keep track of the rows. I can't just knit while Cat'r reads to me or anything. :-/ I just totally lost interest in knitting and crocheting...again. What's wrong with me?! :-(
If that scarf is what's stopping you, why not frog it and start something else, something simple that you can work on while Cat'r reads to you? Or even just put the scarf away somewhere, you don't have to frog it. There's no need to finish one project before you start another!
Oh, I have way too many projects-in-progress. I have a simple garter stitch scarf I could work on while Cat'r reads to me, but it's a fall-winter yarn/colour. I just can't seem to get interested in anything spring-summer. :-/

I guess I'll just have to wait for inspiration/enthusiasm to come back. Lately I've been on a video game kick.

I wish I could find a reliable knitted-hat pattern. I am so used to being able to crochet hats from the top down, trying on as I go. Ripping back and adjusting patterns is not a big deal in a crocheted hat pattern (at least to me). I *have* made bottom-up hats on round looms, but that's not quite the same as on circular needles. I can crochet a hat in an afternoon. Knitting *anything* takes so much longer...at least for me. :-P
i find knitting a lot harder too, but that's cause i learned it after i learned how to crochet... and i can't keep my tension right, so i get all flustered and can't do it for long before i get homicidal. >.> so yeah. i can't practice and get better very much. >.>
I know a lot of folks who crochet take to Continental style knitting, as the yarn is held in the same hand as when you crochet.

Personally I like yarn in left=crochet; yarn in right=knitting. ::grin::

Are you having problems because it's too similar to crochet, the way you hold the yarn?

I know the homicidal feeling--I get that when I try to do Continental knitting. hee!
i dunno. i haven't even tried to knit in over a year, heh. it's just akward using two needles. when i've got the yarn in my hand it's easier to feel what it's doing. when i'm working with needles... it's harder to control.
Ah, well probably crochet is more for you. Have you ever tried loom knitting? It's fun! :-) You can find Knifty Knitter looms at Michaels, etc. And there's much more if you get into it. :-)
i've never seen a knitting loom. i might have to check it out next time i have money i can spend on something like that.
Here is just a little about them.

If you can catch Michaels when they have a sale; or if you use one of their 40% off coupons in their weekly flyers, you can get a set of the round looms for around $10!! Use Homespun or any bulky (5) yarn for these looms.

i spent like $50 on yarn once... there was this sale...

yeah. i'm never gonna use all that damn yarn. >.> as much as i love to crochet, my hands cramp up too much for me to do it often. oh well. one of these days i'll actually finish a blanket. >.
Yeah, but just *having* the yarn and being able to look at it and touch it is a comfort. :-D Can you tell I'm yarn-addicted? I did have lots more yarn at one point but gave it away about a year or so ago. Since Nature abhors a vacuum, I've gotten more. Not the same kinds, but more yarn. :-P

The most expensive yarn I have/had cost $34 a skein. I was close to having to have some surgery, so Bunnicula indulged me and got me two skeins of this beautiful rayon chenille yarn at a LYS. I haven't made anything with it yet, though! :-D

But my usual yarns-of-choice are what you find at Michaels or Hobby Lobby or WalMart or JoAnn's. If I want to splurge, I'll go to YarnMarket online or some place like that. :-)
*nod* it was either a joanns or a michaels that had the sale ages ago. someof the specialish yarns i got, i have no idea what i'm going to do with. heh. i think of something and then go "oh, but i don't wanna use that yarn! it's so nifty!"

>.
I know the feeling--you have to think of a *really* special project to justify using that really special yarn. :-)
